It is easy to put together since all the layers look the same. Even if the size of the baking pans is going to be different for each tier, the cake mix can be the same.

The classic wedding cake is, of course, a rich fruit cake. There is no need to stress about how to make a wedding cake. You can use any fruit cake recipe that works well for you. Unless you have a favorite recipe, take your time testing different recipes you find to give yourself ample time before the wedding.

One of the big advantages of using a fruit cake recipe is that you can make it up to a month before the wedding, cover it with almond paste and it will keep fine. The only thing you will have to do before the wedding is the frosting.

If instead you prefer a different type of cake, you can consider freezing it. Do know, however, that most spongy cakes taste better if eaten within 2-3 days of making. You can freeze them for a week or two, but they won’t be as good.

The tiered design should also help you when it is time to frost. The layers can be covered with white frosting, and all else you will need to do is to work a simple design at the edges. The tops of the lower tiers will not be seen because each one is covered by the tier above.

You can decorate the top tier with anything at all that you find attractive, including figurines, petals, flowers and horseshoes to wish the happy couple good luck. These can easily be bought at any store that sells cake decorations or on line. This step will stop you from needing to add any complicated frosting to the top layer.
