Michelle’s online dating story first become available for online publishing after she agreed to a candid interview with the owners of the online dating singles site she was at one time a member of. With the written consent of Michelle we bring to you her real life stories about the people she met online and the details about her online dating liasons.
Michelle 29 years of age – St Kilda, VIC.
“To start with, I would like to tell people that using free dating sites altered my life beyond any expectation. It would often humor me seeing my friends so wrapped up in online dating, they would spend hours just chatting to strangers they didn’t even know. The fact that I was single got me thinking that there was really nothing stopping me from giving online dating ago.”
“I had not had much attention for a long while having just come out of a long term relationship and couldn’t believe the attention I got when I wandered into the chat rooms. My friends did tell me to expect this but it was still a shock”.
“Before long I realized the habit-forming nature of internet dating and I too was sitting online for hours logged on chatting to men as the attention was doing my self confidence wonders. There was never any need to initiate a conversation new opportunities presented on a daily basis.”
“Although I had made lots of new online (fantasy) friends I did not agree to meet anyone for four weeks until it felt right and I was confident with what I was doing. You can never be 100% sure about the person you are considering meeting offline so I checked out Steve’s Face Book page to see if he was who he claimed to be.”
“I met Steve at an inner city cafe at Sydney’s Surry Hills. It was evident of a mutual attraction as we seemed to bond quickly. There was already anticipation between Steve and I resulting from several weeks of online chatting
“As the night was young we decided to move onto a dance club then inevitably back to Steve’s flat at Maroubra for ‘coffee’ of course the unspoken expectation was to be intimate. We sat uncomfortably in his loungeroom for an hour. Before I knew it night started to become day as the sun started shining through the cracks in the drawn curtains. It dawned on me that this was fantasy but I wanted reality, so I left and went home feeling ashamed.”
“In the taxi ride home it dawned on me that I had been living in a fantasy world. In the following days I accepted that I was more focused with stroking my ego than I was finding someone special. I was going about the online dating thing the wrong way. My advice is not to get sucked in by the attention, I realize now that I was just one of thousands of other girls getting the same attention and from then on I just went on loads of dates until I clicked with someone. Attempting to evaluate real chemistry before a real date is not the way to go.”
“My advice to anyone looking to meet men or meet women online would be to try and not get swept up in the whole fantasy online world, just go on lots of dates and meet new people until the right person comes along.”
“Persistance does pay off if you take it seriously, on my 16th date from internet dating I met John and we were married on the 3rd Jan 2010.”
